Get the latest, news, weather, sports and community events delivered right to your inbox! Hi Jaime. I’m torn between being a good dad and being fiscally responsible. My son just called me up, almost in tears, because his car is irreparably damaged, and it looks like he needs to buy a new one. Without a car, he can’t get to work. He’s also 25, has one bankruptcy under his belt already, and has been evicted from two apartments for not paying his rent. Amazingly, though, he always has the latest video games and streaming subscriptions. He’s begging me to co-sign a loan so he can get a car, but the red flags are plentiful. Can I get a fresh set of eyes on this one? Are there any alternatives to putting myself on the financial hook on this one? JosephWow, this is a tough situation! We all want to help our kids, but it seems like Joseph's son is pretty irresponsible when it comes to money. I ...

Ask Amy: Parents refuse to recognize gay relationship Dear Amy: I’m an out and proud gay woman. Two years ago, I met a wonderful girl. We had an instant connection and started dating. After initially sneaking around, she told her parents about us.She is an only child, and her parents are traditional, old fashioned, “my way or the highway” people.I differ from them in almost every aspect of life.Until this year, she lived at home with them, and things were uncomfortable for her — the topic of her relationship with me was always the elephant in the room.I was never spoken about or acknowledged; they simply pretended that I don’t exist. Her mother seems to be trying to be open. She and I exchange small talk over social media, but her father still won’t acknowledge me at all.I attended a holiday party where they were also present, and he ignored me for the entire night. When we go to their house, I am not welcomed inside. He doesn’t acknowledge any part of her life having to do with me.I have done a lot to try to present myself respectf...

Is MLB’s pitch clock leading to better defense? Some players and coaches think so MILWAUKEE (AP) — The pitch clock may be bothering players as they step to the plate, but they like it a whole lot better once they put on their gloves and take the field. While the rule changes put in place this year to speed up the pace of play have garnered plenty of attention for how they’ve affected hitters and pitchers, some players and managers say the new guidelines also are positively impacting defense. The pitch clock in particular — an idea meant to make it easier for fans to stay focused on the field — may be keeping fielders locked in, too.“I think it’s helping defensively a lot, just because you don’t have the down time to really kind of walk around,” said Seattle Mariners second baseman Kolten Wong, a two-time Gold Glove winner. “You’re not cleaning dirt, you’re constantly back and forth, back and forth, back and forth. So, I’m a big fan of it.”The pitch clock adopted this year — along with limits on infield shifts and several other rules — gives pitchers 15 seconds bet...

She might even be the one to break Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s nearly 35-year-old world heptathlon record.“What I see are all the tools to rewrite the record books,” Joyner-Kersee said in a phone interview on the eve of the U.S. championships that start Thursday at Hayward Field in Eugene, Oregon. “You’re seeing greatness in motion without even knowing the greatness is before you, because of her natural ability. When you see Anna compete, she competes with joy.”She may even have with her a packag...
